As cities around the world face growing challenges such as rapid urbanization, declining physical activity, non-communicable diseases, climate change, and social inequalities, sport has become far more than a recreational activity. Today, citizen sport plays a vital role in promoting public health, social cohesion, and sustainable urban development.
The International Federation of Municipalities’ Sports & Tourism (IFMST) believes that the future of healthy, resilient, and sustainable cities depends on active citizens, healthy lifestyles, and effective collaboration among municipalities, universities, policymakers, and international organizations.
The Second International Scientific and Research Conference on Citizen Sport and Sustainable Development, to be held on 19 November 2026 in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, provides an international platform for researchers, urban leaders, sports professionals, and policymakers to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and develop innovative solutions for sustainable urban development.
The conference will focus on key themes including:
* Citizen Sport and Sport for All
* Public Health and Healthy Cities
* Urban Management and Smart Governance
* Sports Tourism Development
* Innovation and Technology in Urban Sport
* Green and Sustainable Cities
* Social Participation and Social Capital
* Urban Diplomacy and International Cooperation
* United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The International Federation of Municipalities’ Sports & Tourism (IFMST) warmly invites universities, municipalities, researchers, international organizations, and professionals from around the world to participate in this important scientific event. Together, we can strengthen international cooperation, advance evidence-based policies, and contribute to building healthier, more active, more inclusive, and more sustainable cities.
We believe that the future of urban development is built not only through infrastructure, but through investment in people, health, and active communities.
Respectfully,
